This is a photograph of a Karl B. Smith mural painted in 2000 at Charleston Place Hotel's Spa in Charleston, SC, an Orient Express Hotel Property. It is one of an extensive series of works he has completed at the hotel since 1996. In addition, Karl has created a mural of a Roman storefront coffee shop in the hotel lobby, two murals of the SC State tree (the Sabal Palmetto), faux mahogany paneling and gold leafing in the Thoroughbred Bar, silver leafing and painted floors in Charleston Grill, a series of seven original art deco murals in the Academy Room, restoration of the lobby mural painted in 1945 in the lobby of the Riviera Theatre, the restoration and recreation of fourteen art deco style murals in the Riviera Theater banquet hall, and over 400 stenciled floor designs in the guest rooms and suites of the hotel.
